The Facts
Since our establishment in 2017, transparency has been a cornerstone of our approach within this industry, reflecting our deep-seated commitment to fostering trust and integrity with our stakeholders.
Recent allegations circulating in the media have prompted us to address the situation directly, ensuring that all parties have access to the facts and information necessary to form an informed perspective. Our foremost priority remains our valued relationship with you, our customers and stakeholders. Therefore, we are actively engaging in open communication to provide clarity and uphold the trust you've placed in us. Your confidence in our integrity is paramount, and we are dedicated to maintaining that trust through transparency and accountability.
This is Biologi
Biologi was born out of a simple need to help people with their skin goals. Our mission has been to provide consumers with a different and alternative approach to traditional skincare. We focus on providing simple effective skincare regimens, cutting out the middleman and being responsible for the entire process of products - we call it; plant to pore. Our desire to change the landscape and offer plant based skincare challenges traditional products that contain synthetics, fillers and artificial fragrances and our hundreds of customer testimonials are proof that you can have exceptional skin using plant sourced phyto-actives.
This is what we stand for
Our customers are what drive us. We value simplicity in skincare and want to provide an alternative clean and natural skincare path. Our customer’s results are proof that plant based skincare works and that you do not need a 6-10 step regime to have great skin. We are a gender neutral brand, do not ‘cookie cut’ skin regimes as we understand that every skin type, condition and goal is unique to you.
This is what we do
Our products are a result of our sister company (Plant Extracts’) C.L.E.C.S. ™ II technology. This process of Cold Liquid Extraction Closed System has been built entirely in-house and involves extracting single plants to become our bespoke serums. Each plant is chosen for their distinctive skin loving phyto-actives, and nutrients. This method is revolutionary and very different to traditionally made skincare products that may contain over 30+ ingredients, many of which contain artificial colours, fragrance, thickeners and fillers.
The ingredients explained
As there have been claims that our products are 80% glycerine, we want to clarify. The ingredients of our products remain unchanged, and are not in question. All of our serums contain 0.2% sodium benzoate which acts as a preservative for the natural extracts. For example: Bf Restore Face & Body Serum contains 99.8% Citrus Australasica (Finger Lime) Fruit Extract & 0.2% sodium benzoate. Glycerine, a natural ingredient is used as part of the proprietary extraction process only.
You can find a comprehensive list of ingredients for each of our products on our website and product packaging which complies with INCI. If you have any further questions or need more information, please feel free to reach out. We're here to ensure you have all the information you need for your skincare journey.

Timeline of events - Legal Proceedings
2000: Ross founds FPI Oceania a wholesale essential oil company. With Ross’s work with the Australian Tea Tree Research Institute and Thursday Plantation working as a product development chemist working with many essential oils including tea tree oil this was a natural progression for his career. Ross has a Advanced Certificate in Chemistry and a Associate Diploma Chemical Technology - Chemistry.

2009: FPI moves into the supply of liquid extracts in Australia & New Zealand by importing extracts from FPI UK and Ross begins his journey with plants and extracts produced from them.
2011: Ross meets Lisa Carroll in September in Byron Bay, they soon enter into a personal relationship.
2012: In February, Ross and Steve Hughes (owners & directors) of FPI Oceania look to create extracts in Australia. In March Ross makes the decision to purchase extract equipment produced in Italy used for limoncello production. Lisa begins part-time work for FPI Oceania in a sales & marketing capacity.
In August, Ross comes up with the name Native Extracts. Native Extracts is a trade name at this point as the extracts are produced by FPI Oceania as it owns the equipment, and its employees are the ones operating it. In November, Ross, registers the business name, Native Extracts Pty Ltd with 1 share issued to Ross. Ross Is the only founder.
2013: Southern Cross University indicates that the extract of Kakadu plum produced by FPI Oceania has vitamin C as a nutrient, which can be identified after several months from the manufacture date. This leads to the claim that the extraction process and liquid matrix that FPI Oceania produces stabilise vitamin C.
2014: In May Native Extracts starts trading as its own entity and Ross gives 50% of his shares to Lisa Carroll.
2015: The personal relationship between Ross and Lisa breaks down and they separate.
2016: Due to personal differences, a compromise is made in late March where Lisa will receive Native Extracts and that all monies owned to Ross by Native Extract are paid. A deed of agreement is entered into between the parties.
In the coming years Lisa removes Ross from any Native Extracts marketing and replaces him with herself as the founder and science person behind Native Extracts. In 2016 Plant Extracts was launched.
2017: Biologi was founded with our 3 original serums. Biologi is a natural, single plant extract + preservative. Australian based, made and owned, we are entirely accountable for the production process and lifecycle of our products - from plant to bottle to pore.
By perfecting the ability to extract plant nutrients in their own liquid matrix with Bio-Key™ technology, this protects the natural actives and allows the serum to perform on the skin just as it does in the plant. Plant Extracts innovative extraction method captures the plants water-soluble phytoactive nutrients at their most powerful.
Our products are supercharged with active phyto-nutrients shown to be highly effective at nourishing and protecting the cells. Biologi is not a juice, powder, acid, or synthetic equivalent – simply the concentrated life force direct from the plant cells, to your skin.
2019: Plant Extracts’ revolutionary extraction technology C.L.E.C.S. was developed and used to manufacture our high performance and award-winning skincare. In May 2020 C.L.E.C.S. ™II was commissioned after 17 years of research and understanding of cellular structure, health, and function.
2020: Legal proceedings start between Native Extracts (Lisa Carroll) and Ross Macdougald. This court case goes on for 3 years.
In this time, Ross was at different times unable and then advised, not to attempt to give evidence to the court due to his mental health at the time. Because of this, no evidence was recorded, even though there was independent testing done by Southern Cross University to substantiate the claims of Vitamin C and Byangelicin.
2023: In October, Court Orders were handed down, in which Ross, Plant Extracts and Biologi fully complied.
During this time, we believe Native Extracts hired a PR team specifically to get their side of story out, as evidenced by their tagging them in their LinkedIn posts. Lisa’s legal counsel Dundas Lawyers also made several self written articles about the case and taking the extraordinary step of posting product reviews under a different name.
Jennifer Rudd, who runs a small skincare compliance course business, singled out Biologi. It is imperative to note, Rudd has never contacted Biologi or Plant Extracts for our independent testing or reports - so she only has one side of the story and scrutinised only one party to the proceedings. We are also unaware of any independent testing that Rudd has conducted to make such claims. We were made aware from multiple third parties, that she had contacted them and bombarded them with negative messages against Biologi.
Biologi submits for additional independent testing from University of Queensland, on 4 batches of Bk and Bf serums, as well as it’s entire serum range. Every single product came back with Vitamin C.
2024: In February, per the orders, Biologi and Plant Extracts removed the orders from their websites, socials per the instructions. To see additional info pertaining to these orders, and our responses please CLICK HERE
Is there Glycerine in Biologi serums?
In short yes, Glycerine will show up in testing as it is used in the extraction process but there is no Glycerine added to the finished product.
We are compliant with INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic ingredients) guidelines. According to PCPC (Personal Care Products Council) who maintain the INCI registrations The INCI name for extracts represent the"material extracted". By this definition Biologi from our launch in 2017 was and maintains we are compliant in line with INCI recommendations.
What is INCI? INCI names (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) are systematic names internationally recognised to identify cosmetic ingredients. They are developed by the International Nomenclature Committee (INC) and published by the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook, available electronically as wINCI.
An important aspect of INCI, is that it is self-guided compliance. They provide guidelines for brands to follow, and this applies to the raw materials and not finished products. There are no certifications or formal processes for finished products.
Due to this, we never included information around Glycerine and it’s use in the extraction process, which is for the plant extraction production. Glycerine is not added to the final product. The final product only includes the plant extract and 0.2% food grade preservative (sodium benzoate) which is needed for natural extracts. For example: Bf Restore Face & Body Serum contains 99.8% Citrus Australasica (Finger Lime) Fruit Extract & 0.2% sodium benzoate. In summary Glycerine, a natural ingredient, is used as part of the proprietary extraction process only.
We understand that by not including this information previously, it may be misinterpreted. Whilst not required by INCI to disclose, we appreciate the need for full transparency. As such, we will include this information moving forward.
Is it Glycerine or Glycerol
The plant extraction process use a solvent of organic, palm free Glycerine, from natural origin.
Glycerol, also called glycerine or glycerin, is a simple triol compound. It is a colourless, odourless, viscous liquid that is sweet-tasting and non-toxic. The glycerol backbone is found in lipids known as glycerides.
Not to be confused with Glycol which is a petrochemical commonly found in the automotive industry. Which is not found/ used in our products.
