What is psoriasis?
An inflammatory skin disorder, psoriasis is a challenging affliction for many, with the most common areas of elbows, knees and scalp being affected. Although genetic predisposition may play a part, it’s the immune system, that, when triggered sends immune responses leading to inflammation and fast turnover of cells. These cells don’t go through the normal process of keratinisation like the average normal 28-day cycle, instead the process takes around 7 days, resulting in the tell-tale signs of raised, red, scaly patches of psoriasis.
Sometimes itchy, psoriasis can be painful, and whilst there is no cure, it is not contagious and is a benign skin disorder.
